How Changing Your Perspective Can Change Your Life

Art and Interview with:

“This represents the irony is that you can get attached to the pain you feel and form an identity around it.  You almost start to fall in love with your pain; you hold on to it and then sometimes you sabotage any happiness or peace that comes along because it threatens your identity. ”

The Moment You’ve Been Waiting For…

“I use art as an outlet to communicate ideas, expand perspective, and create honest expression.”

“I draw fears, worries, dark twisted humor.”

“I work to convey that thought lodged inside your head, pecking at the back of your mind while you try to sleep; an overdue task, a nagging guilt, a daunting shapeless future.”

“My aim is to expose the internal struggle happening inside all of us and create an image to embody it.”

“Give it a name and a face and suddenly that indescribable feeling is actualized and somehow less threatening.”

A Safe Place to Cope

“Sometimes people see my art and wonder how it came from such a happy person but… (through my) art, (through my) drawing, that’s really how I digest what’s going on.”

“Art is my safe place.”

Wearing Your True Identity

“Life just feels like a performance to me where everyone is just acting all the time.”

“People are afraid of how their expression is going to come off and that people will think it doesn’t sound like you.”

“We create our an identity for certain events and struggle to separate the idea of those identities from the events.”
”It’s important to be aware of this and to know that your perception is not always correct.”

“One of life’s greatest comforts is to relate to someone.”

“There is nothing in this life that comforts me more than finding out somebody has thought or said the same thing as me before.  Honest to God I live for that feeling.”

Back Story i.e. Inspiration

“I drew a lot in high school, just random absurdities.  I got banned from drawing even in projects because that’s pretty much all I was doing.”

“I started struggling.”

“I read an article by a man named Guy Ritchie and he talked about how our unwillingness to feel is what causes suffering and that by embracing pain we’re free by it.”

Freedom to Feel

“I remember reading that vividly.”

“It struck me.  No one’s ever told me that, that I can just feel everything and not feel bad about it and not feel guilty.”

Trent Richardson.

“The one with the camera represents projection; how we are projecting pain from the past and fear from the future which puts a lens over what we see. That type of projection is the only reason we judge certain situations the way we do. ”

Eliminating Excess Noise

“That was the first time I drew for expression and for things that were going on inside.  It’s been an outlet for me ever since.”

“It helped quiet everything around me.”

“If you really want an inside look at what’s going on or how I am feeling inwardly my art is the place to go.”

Perspective is
Everything

“I always hoped that somebody could look at something I’ve done and ponder on it and gain a new perspective on it maybe it would help them cope with life or help them in someway.”

“Perspective is what can change the worst of situations.”

“It’s hard to be tied down to one perspective.  That’s my thing; I love to explore new ideas and concepts and challenge what I already know.”

When Your Perspective no Longer Serves a Purpose

“Search for a new perspective.”

“If you’re in a dark place, search for a new perspective.  Go out of your way to look up quotes, articles, books, art, ANYTHING that offers you a new perspective because the one you have right now is not being resourceful to you.”

One More Time, for Those That Are Scrolling by

“If you’re in a dark place, search for a new perspective; the one you have right now is not being resourceful to you.”

“…I would just say the opposite of depression is expression.”

“I heard another quote that said ‘what you can’t say owns you, what you can’t hide controls you’.”

“I had something to say and art gave me that freedom to say it.”
