Significance of the Semicolon & Sacred Geometry

Letting his art Live on

“When I was a kid I would always draw Disney characters, as I got older I got into sacred geometry art which is what I do now.”

Nelson told me that his talents and artistic coping mechanisms expand beyond music into his drawings.

Nelson told me of a good friend he had at Coffee Rush, Seth, who he says taught him so much about his art and helped him develop his drawings into what they are today.

Seth is well known, respected, and remembered around Coffee Rush after unexpectantly passing away.

Nelson says he remembers being at Seth’s grave site and promising that he would not let Seth’s art work die with him.

Tattooing One’s Self

Nelson now creates prints with his geometry artwork, t-shirts, and has even designed a few tattoos.

As we were sitting in our interview I noticed one tattoo Nelson had on his wrist and had to ask him about it.

I noticed that it was a sound wave tattoo which he not only told me was the soundwave of his own heart beat but that he had designed and actually inked the tattoo on himself.

Semicolon Project

On his wrist the soundwave comes together into a semi colon.

“The semi colon project helped me a lot through my depression… my biggest obstacle in creating my own art is myself.  My depression can take over and not allow me to want to do anything.”

For those reading that are not familiar with the semi colon project let me tell you of this beautiful thought.

The semi colon is what an author uses when they choose to extend a sentence rather than ending it; showing that there is more to that thought than what may seem at that time.

Keeping Your Main Character Alive

A lot of people with depression, PTSD, bi-polar disorder, or who may struggle with something else have gotten a semi-colon tattoo to remind them that whatever they are going through is temporary; that their life is worth continuing.

Nelson says, “Every life is a story and needs its main character.”

I asked Nelson what he was most proud of in his life to which he immediately replied, “My kids.”

“Watching my ex wife and I go through a divorce, and the other things they have struggled with in the past and seeing how resilient they are… it just makes me proud to be their dad.”

Must be the Name

I do have to shout out that Nelson recently got engaged (to another Chelsea!)  And include that for the first ten minutes or so of the interview he gushed about her and talked about how every little thing she did was cute.

Nelson is at a much better place now with his emotional state after finding a way to cope and express himself through his art work.

He is doing great things with his art including having a business in the works with his talented fiancé who is also an artist.

A Place to Cope

Nelson says to those who may be going through what he went through with his depression, “When you feel as though no one can help you, that’s when you need help the most.  People will love you unconditionally if you open up.”

He also adds, “If you’re feeling sad, down, or alone, come to Coffee Rush.”

Nelson is currently working on a book of poetry which he says will hopefully be available on amazon soon entitled “Finding One’s Truth.”

I’ll leave you with an excerpt:

‘Success is something we cannot derive from a worldly perspective.  For the poorest or richest among us saves one life, one soul, and or teaches one perplexed in vanity to see the beauty in all things then their purpose has been served and can be called successful.’
